What catches people out
Every program page lists the specific ways applicants lose a place on a technicality. Three of them:
Engineering
Waterloo Engineering
There is no single "Waterloo Engineering" OUAC code — the discipline selected when applying is the OUAC code. Only one Engineering program can be listed as the first choice; one alternate Engineering choice can be requested through the optional Engineering Program Alternate Choice form (not the AIF itself). Biomedical and Software Engineering are excluded from the alternate-choice system and must be applied to directly.
Engineering (BASc) — University of Waterloo
Business
Queen's Commerce
Queen's Commerce (QC) is routinely confused with U of T Rotman Commerce (TAC). They are completely separate programs with different schools, OUAC codes, deadlines, and supplementary application formats. Commerce also has an earlier Queen's application deadline than most other Queen's programs.
Commerce (Smith School of Business) — Queen's University
Health Sciences
McMaster BHSc
MNS is the BHSc. It is not MLH (Honours Health & Society) and not the Life Sciences Gateway. Applicants routinely list the wrong one.
Honours Health Sciences (BHSc) — McMaster University
Kinesiology
Waterloo Kinesiology
Waterloo Kinesiology is in the Faculty of Health, not Science or Engineering. Applicants familiar with Waterloo Engineering or Mathematics may assume that an AIF or interview is required, but there is no supplementary application for Kinesiology.
