Queen's University · Kingston: Smith School of Business
Commerce (BCom)
A supplementary application decides admission before you arrive. High stakes, one shot, but you know where you stand by May.
A supplementary application is required, due Feb 15, 2027.
One application, one decision, before you start.

Supplementary application
Deadline
15 February 2027, 11:59 PM EST. No late submissions.
Format not yet confirmed
Smith's own supplementary application page currently says details for 2026-27 are coming soon and that it is finalizing the format, questions AND assessment criteria. Anyone telling an applicant exactly what this year's supp app looks like is guessing. Check smith.queensu.ca before writing a word.
One written response, then one video response. Same shared format as Queen's Health Sciences and Nursing.

Mismatch
Smith says it looks for strong academic performance, aptitude for qualitative and quantitative subjects, self-awareness, and potential for leadership and teamwork. The published rubric does not score leadership, business interest, or quantitative aptitude anywhere, it scores challenge-handling, teamwork and reflection, identical to Health Sci and Nursing. Don't write a leadership résumé answer against a rubric that doesn't reward it.
Weighting
No percentage split published. Smith names two elements for admission: required courses and marks, and the mandatory Supplementary Application, and does not weight them. Queen's central answer to how important the supp app is versus grades: 'It is very important.'
There is no cluster model, no percentile system, and no published tradeoff. If the site shows a GPA-vs-supp-app graphic for QC, we invented it.
03
Required courses
Six 4U/M courses. No more than two 4M courses from the same discipline.
Required
- ENG4U: minimum 80%
- MCV4U: minimum 80%
- One other 4U mathematics course: minimum 80%
- Three additional 4U/M courses
The math-heaviest Queen's direct-entry program. Two 4U maths, both at 80%+. A student who dropped Advanced Functions after Calculus is not eligible.
04
Averages
Queen's Competitive Average table
90+
Minimum for admission consideration, as of last September. The higher and more recent Queen's number.
OUInfo
87%+
The outlier: same pattern as Health Sci, where OUInfo drifts from Queen's own pages.
Queen's-wide floor
75% minimum for any Queen's program
05
Traps
01
Two different Queen's deadlines on one OUAC form
Commerce, Health Sci and Nursing are due 1 February. Every other Queen's program is due 1 March. A student applying to Commerce and Arts in the same sitting has two deadlines a month apart. People see 'February 15' everywhere, assume that's when they apply, and miss the application by two weeks.
02
The top Google result describes a system that no longer exists
ScholarTree's Queen's Commerce guide still describes a Personal Statement of Experience and three submission rounds on 1 December, 1 January and 1 February. That's the pre-Kira system. It's gone: Kira replaced it in the 2023-24 cycle. A student prepping to that guide will prepare multi-round essays for a one-shot 10-minute timed platform.
03
Two 4U maths at 80%
MCV4U plus one more, both at 80% or above. Not a general 'math requirement'.
04
The 2026-27 format isn't confirmed
Smith is re-working format, questions and assessment criteria. The rubric Queen's publishes is explicitly labelled 2024-25.
06
Prep
- Shape
- Rehearsal, identical to Queen's Health Sci
- Time
- 1–2 weeks
Story bank of 3–4 challenge stories and 3–4 team stories, beats only. Rehearse the reflection. Timed practice at 335 words in 10 minutes. Run the Kira practice module. If applying to both Queen's Commerce and Health Sci, that's two separate timed supp apps with two sets of random questions, both due 15 February. Budget for two sittings.
