How long it takes to be able to start

Apply through OUAC
Acknowledgement email in 3–5 days, containing the 8-digit Queen's ID needed to register in Kira
Kira invitation up to 8 business days after that. Invitations go out weekly.
Nothing 8 business days after acknowledgement → email suppapp@queensu.ca

Worst case: About 13 days from applying to being able to start.
Advice: Add @queensu.ca and @kiratalent.com to safe senders on day one.

Application rules

Do not submit reference letters, CVs or portfolios. Explicitly not reviewed.
Grammarly and similar extensions are not recommended, they can break the platform.
Applying to Queen's Commerce or Nursing as well means a completely separate timed supp app for each.
Queen's does not make alternate offers. Every program you want must be listed on OUAC.
Submitting early does not get you an offer earlier. Queen's states this explicitly.

Written criteria

Key insight
Every band of both rubrics ends on reflection. Competent (3) is 'a few insights'. Exceptional (5) is 'reflects meaningfully on what they learned and how it shaped their perspective or behaviour going forward'. A great story with no reflection caps at 3.

Not scored: No marks for prestige of the experience, extracurricular volume, or wanting to be a doctor. Queen's states the questions will not ask you to list your involvement outside the classroom.

Weighting

No percentage split is published anywhere. Queen's says the supp app is 'very important' and that grades alone will not produce an offer.

Unlike Mac, there is no published or leaked cluster or percentile model. The absence of a number is itself the finding.

Traps

The application and the supp app are two weeks apart
Applications are due 1 February. The supplementary is due 15 February. Apply on the deadline and the Kira invite can take up to 13 days, leaving two or three days to complete a timed application you cannot rehearse. Apply in November or December.

The word limit changed and going over is penalised
It is 335 words now. It was 285 when Kira launched in the 2023-24 cycle. Guides and school handouts still circulating say 285. Confirm the live number in the platform before you write.

Retaking re-rolls your question
If you have to retake or resubmit either component for technical reasons, you receive a new question at random. Any answer you had in mind is gone.

Prep

Shape: Rehearsal, not revision
Time: 1–2 weeks

You cannot pre-write. Build a story bank of 3–4 challenge stories and 3–4 team stories, beats only, not scripts. Rehearse the reflection, not the story. Practise writing and submitting 335 words in 10 minutes. Run the Kira practice module repeatedly; it's unlimited and unscored.
