Life Sciences is an admission category, not a program of study. In first year you are not enrolled in any specific program. You apply to your subject POSt at the end of first year, on your first-year university marks.

Application rules
- You may apply to up to three programs or campuses, but only one application per program area. You cannot apply to two program areas within A&S St. George.
- Applying to Life Sci at both St. George and UTM is allowed and is the standard hedge, since UTM's cutoffs run lower.

Biology and Chemistry are not required for admission but are effectively required for the degree. First-year Life Sci is biology, chemistry, math and two electives.

Traps
01
You are not applying to a program
Getting into Life Sci is not getting into the program you want. That decision is a year away and runs on your first-year university marks, against a cutoff that doesn't exist until it's set.

The prerequisites are lighter than everyone assumes
Admission requires English and Grade 12 Calculus only. No Biology, no Chemistry. But U of T's own example: for psychology you need ENG4U and calculus to be admitted, and Grade 12 biology to enrol in the psychology program at the end of first year. You can be admitted and then find you can't take the courses your intended POSt requires.

St. George and UTM have opposite prerequisite shapes
St. George requires MCV4U and only recommends the sciences. UTM requires MHF4U plus SBI4U plus SCH4U and only recommends MCV4U. Separate OUAC codes, separate decisions. This is the one people get wrong.

You can switch out of your category later
You may apply to programs outside your admission category at the end of first year. Life Sci is not a cage; it's the door you came in through.
