How to apply

OUAC → University of Toronto → Faculty of Arts & Science, St. George → then select Rotman Commerce from the program list. It is an A&S admission category, not a separate faculty application. After applying you get a U of T confirmation email with your JOINid/UTORid. Documents may take up to three weeks to appear on Join U of T. Safe-list utoronto.ca.

Three third-party sources disagree on the exact question count (4, 5 or 6) but agree on the shape: some questions are known, some are random. Roughly half is genuinely pre-writable: nobody applying to Queen's can say that.

What the program says it looks for

Your grades are important, but so are your extracurricular activities, your capacity to learn and to lead, and your ability to express yourself.

Mac Health Sci says to include personal experience only if it clearly connects, and that forcing it in can set you back. Queen's says the questions will not ask you to list your involvement outside the classroom. Rotman has a dedicated written question that is literally a list of your activities. This is the one program where the résumé belongs in the application.

Weighting

Rotman states only that the supplemental application will be considered alongside your academic record. That's the entire official statement.

Alternative offer

If you select the Rotman Commerce or Computer Science admission categories, you can select a second A&S admission category for consideration on the Join U of T portal. It does not affect eligibility for your first choice, and is evaluated after all first-choice applicants have been considered.

Rotman is the only program in this set with a real built-in fallback. Queen's makes no alternate offers. Western makes no automatic alternatives. Always set a second category: Social Sciences is the natural one. It costs nothing.

Traps

01
Rotman's own pages disagree about the December deadline
The Important Dates page says submitting after 1 December means they may not consider you until after the March round, then adds an asterisk saying all Ontario secondary school applicants are treated equally so long as documents arrive by the regular deadline. The Ontario High School Applicants page says late submission means April or May. Best reading for an Ontario student: the asterisk applies to you. But it's not stated cleanly anywhere. Hit 1 December: nothing is lost by being early.

Grade 11 counts
Rotman states all Grade 11 and 12 U/M courses may be considered, and recommends an overall average of all Grade 11 and 12 courses in the mid-high 80s or above. No other program in this set says this.

Night school and private credits are discouraged in writing
Rotman reserves the right to give preference to students whose marks are the result of a single attempt at each course, and encourages students to take courses in their day school where possible.

Rotman and Queen's Commerce are different programs
Similar names, different schools, different OUAC codes, different deadlines, different supp app formats. Rotman also uses the general Join U of T portal while U of T Engineering applicants use a separate one.

Prep

Shape: Half preparable, half rehearsal
Time: Weeks for the known half

The activities list and the intro video should be finished, timed and polished weeks in advance. 20 minutes for a 200-word written answer is real drafting time, unlike Queen's 10 minutes for 335 words. Practice sessions are unlimited: use them until the intro video is clean. Specificity about Rotman itself (streams, specializations, resources) is reported to matter in the intro video.
